Megan van der Elst is a 23 years old photographer from Netherlands that has a strong passionate to photograph everything around including animal photos.
She did not realize that her guinea pig, Booboo, will be one of the world famous animals on the Internet later.
Megan’s photography gear includes Canon EOS 500D and two Canon lenses 50mm/F1.4 and 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6. She started to take photos for the small animal, booboo, and pose her (Booboo) in different indoor and outdoor scenes, wearing eyeglasses and in the middle of flowers.
The outdoor photography allows Megan to have enough space and variety of scene options especially for this type of photography (check Darcy the Hedgehog Adds More to Cuteness in Pet Photography).
Additionally, she tried different techniques such as bokeh and shallow depth of field to give more focus on the small animal.
Animal photos are very challenging because the always movement of the animal in front of the camera and you need to pick the right moment to push the camera button (Wet Dogs – Funny Way to Feature Animal Photography). In Booboo’s photos, the situation is different as guinea pigs are quite and friendly animals that do not move a lot in front of the camera. Megan explains how much she is lucky with that: “they just don’t move a lot in front of the camera, I guess I am lucky with that!”
Megan introduces Booboo as “She’s not that social to other guinea pigs though, I would say a spirited lady. She also doesn’t walk, stays if you put her somewhere till you pick her up again. Quite spoiled and often not interested in things. I think all these things give her a strong and unique character! Unfortunately she can’t get babies anymore, she’s too old for that now.”
Guinea pigs are neither pigs nor from Guinea. They are originally from Andes in South America. They are as small as rates. Booboo is from the American crested breed and weights around 1 kg. Her favorite food is chicory and carrots and she like to do nothing put to eat sleep and pose in front of the camera.
She started to feature Booboo photos in her Deviant Arts profile and her lieveheersbeestje.com website, which means ladybug in Dutch. Then, Megan started to create a unified identity for the project by creating Booboo and Friends website, which includes more information and photos about the little Booboo.
In addition to Booboo project, Megan is a very talented photographer with interest in nature and still life photography. Additionally, she like to do photo editing and Photoshop actions that she makes available on her Deviant Arts page.
